Dear Colleagues,
The FSOSW Abstract committee is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for oral presentations and workshops during its 39th annual conference that will be held in Orlando, Florida August 24-26, 2022. We invite psychosocial oncology practitioners from all disciplines to submit abstracts for the conference entitled:

Oncology Social Work: Making an Impact Beyond the Surface. Oncology Social Workers create connections between patients and families and link them to available support and resources. On the surface it may appear that oncology social workers simply refer to community, financial and support resources. However, by utilizing a perspective that is diverse, equitable and inclusive oncology social workers can utilize their skills and knowledge to look below the surface. They apply networking and application of theory into trauma informed practice to address the obstacles cancer patients face. The Oncology Social Worker is tasked with guiding a patient through a multilayered journey with the end goal of developing healthy coping skills, improved communication, and acceptance. Oncology social workers need advanced practice skills in order to successfully guide patients and family members as a member of a multi- disciplinary team.

At this year’s conference, let us look beyond the surface at how the Oncology Social Worker practices, develops, and maintains an effective tool kit to service the cancer patient population. Let us see why The Time Is Right for Social Work!

Conference Objectives:

  1. Introduction of innovative practices and research for enhancing oncology social work practice.

  2. Development of strategies for incorporating and promoting effective self-care techniques as a component of clinical practice.

  3. Promotion of education and evidence-informed approaches for holistic patient care.

Through original research presentations and workshops, the conference will provide opportunities for practitioner-scientists to share their work at all levels of social work practice, micro, macro, and policy.

Deadline: June 13, 2022
