FSOSW 36th Annual Conference 2019

The FSOSW Abstracts committee is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for oral presentations and workshops during its 36th annual conference that will be held in St Augustine, Florida September 25-27, 2019. We invite psychosocial oncology practitioners from all disciplines to submit abstracts for this year’s conference.

Expanding on themes from past conferences, this year’s conference, Innovations within Oncology Social Work: How Have We Progressed in the Last 36 Years? recognizes social work’s historical place at the forefront of oncology care and aims to identify and examine current innovative practices in oncology social work practice.

From its early days, oncology social work practice has been grounded in approaches that acknowledge the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis and its potentially adverse effects on interrelated dimensions of relationships, employment, finances, treatment planning, and end-of-life decision-making. From a perspective of understanding, oncology social workers use practice knowledge in their efforts to address client challenges with identifying, addressing, coping with, and resolving issues related to a cancer diagnosis

 Conference Objectives:

  1. Introduction of innovative practices and research for enhancing oncology social work practice.
  2. Development of strategies for incorporating and promoting effective self-care techniques as a component of clinical practice.
  3. Promotion of education and evidence-informed approaches to holistic patient care.

Through original research presentations and workshops, the conference will provide opportunities for practitioner-scientists to share their work at all levels of social work practice; micro, macro, and policy.
